Health Crisis in the United States
1 min readDec 5, 2019
These statistics are alarming:
- Recent reports project that by 2030, half of all adults (115 million adults) in the United States will be obese. This number was around 15% in 1970. Obesity is linked to rising U.S. rates of dozens of chronic illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
- In the United States close to 50% of people are suffering from chronic disease despite trillions of dollars spent on healthcare.
- 27% of young Americans are too overweight to serve in our military. Approximately 15,000 potential recruits fail their physicals every year because they are unfit.
- 50% of the things that killed us in 1900 have been almost eliminated with antibiotics, sanitation and hygiene, emergency medicine, and vaccines. Without that, life expectancy after 50 would probably be the same as it was then.
And that’s just a few. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services list many more on their website to be alarmed about.
